Volunteering with the aged care volunteer visitors scheme
Friendship is important to our wellbeing.
The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is a nationwide, Commonwealth Government funded initiative. For over 30 years, the program has created friendships between elders in our community and people looking to volunteer by providing friendly visits.
MVP Wellbeing are one of the many registered community organisations funded by the Department of Health and Aged Care to ignite these friendships.
As volunteering is great for wellbeing, when MVP Wellbeing create friendships through the ACVVS, we acknowledge the important role that both the visitor AND the elder being visited play. Each partnership we create aims to support and enhance the wellbeing of both the Volunteer Elder and Volunteer Visitor.
“When you light a lamp for another,
It also brightens Your path.”
Volunteering with the ACVVS is very Flexible.
It promotes Freedom, Fun, Social Connection and Independence.
Increased wellbeing for all.

Important Information
Visits can be one-to-one or a visitors may wish to make friends with a small group.
Friendship “matches” are made by identifying shared interests or following an opportunity to meet many possible friends.
Ideally visits will be regular (i.e. weekly or fortnightly, for an hour or so).
Support is provided by an MVP Wellbeing Volunteer Coordinator during the establishment of a ACVVS friendship and ongoing as required. However, Volunteer Visitors are supported to become autonomous and expected to work towards visiting independently.
Both parties retain the right to end an ACVVS friendship or cease participation at any time.
All Volunteer Visitors must undergo a police check before starting, and every three years. MVP Wellbeing cover the cost of all police checks.
This is a funded, well established initiative. The safety of all participants is paramount. Because of this, Visitors must report their visits.
Visits are intended for friendship only. ACVVS volunteers are not permitted to:
Undertake personal care tasks or give medication.
Sign documentation or be involved in legal affairs.
